To myself and others, I’m Just A Girl From Brooklyn, trying to leave my mark on the world

Who is Mechellé? Mechellé is an Educator, Marketing Professor, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program Manager. Creatively, she’s a blogger, content creator, writer, and aspiring yoga teacher. At home, she’s a daughter, sister, aunty, and mother to an angel. To myself and others, I’m Just A Girl From Brooklyn trying to leave my mark on the world.
The biggest obstacle I’ve had to overcome has been from living with the grief of the loss of my daughter, Summer, who was born prematurely on January 21, 2021, and passed away on January 26, 2021. At 25 weeks pregnant, I was diagnosed with Preeclampsia which caused my blood pressure to spike, and other complications, resulting in an emergency c-section.
The birth and death of my baby changed my life forever. I too could have died, so now, having endured that, and to still being here, makes I feel like I got a second chance at life. I live to not waste any of it. I live my life to the fullest. I live to honor Summer.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
I will tell myself that she is a lot stronger than she thinks, that God hears and sees all, and He never forgets. I will advise her to quit doubting herself and that she is beautiful, creative, and dope as hell. I’ll tell her that not everyone is for her, and it’s not cool being a people pleaser. It’s okay to let people go.
